Uploading Case Files to Genira: Supported Folder Structures
Genira makes it easy to upload dental scan files, whether you're uploading a single case or multiple cases at once:
- Click ‘Create’ to open the ‘Upload Scans’ window
- drag and drop one or more top-level folders into the Upload Scans window
Genira will upload and process all valid cases automatically.
To ensure your cases are recognised and grouped correctly, your data will need to meet the following:
✅ File Types
Only STL and PLY files are processed these file types are identified by the suffix “.stl” or “ply”. Any other file types included in the upload will be ignored.
If the file name itself contains one of the the file will be recognised correctly.
In the table below the ‘...’ in that table signifies where the rest of the name should be. In cases where the acceptable convention is “…_lower” the following files would be recognised:
- case123987_lower.stl
- dummyScan_lower.ply
The following file would not be recognised due to the addition of 01 at the end of the name:
- case123987_lower01.stl
The supported scanners, at the time of writing, are detailed in the table Supported Scanners. If you are using a scanner not currently supported please reach out to “support@genira.com”

✅ Bulk File Uploads
Genira supports uploading many scan files at once. If the files meet the naming see Supported Scanners Table, Genira can automatically group files into Cases, based on the parts of the name that are not part of the scanner name convention identified.
Example:
If four of the files uploaded were:
- case993987_lower.stl
- case123987_upper.stl
- case123987_lower.stl
- case993987_upper.stl
Genira would combine those files into 2 cases, case993987 and case123987.
Genira supports spaces in the file names.
✅ Nested Folder Structure Requirements
Genira supports nested directories, as long as the structure meets one of the naming criteria, see , at the bottom (file) level.
Example:
cases/12345/Upper.stl cases/12345/Lower.stl
✅ Batch Uploads
You can upload multiple cases at once by selecting several top-level folders and dragging them into the ‘Upload Scans’ window together. Each folder will be treated as a separate case, as long as the contents follow the rules above.
🧠 Tips
- You can include other files or folders in your upload, but they’ll be ignored unless they meet the above rules.
- Make sure each case has both upper and lower scans for best results, though partial uploads are also accepted.
By organizing your directories according to these guidelines, you'll make the upload process faster and more reliable..
